Russia’s Inter RAO inks deal to build four power units in Cuba
MOSCOW, Mar 21 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Inter RAO Export and Cuba’s Energoimport have signed a contract on construction of four power units with a combined capacity of 800 megawatts (MW) in Cuba, Inter RAO said in a corporate magazine seen by PRIME on Monday.
In accordance with the contract signed in late 2015, Inter RAO will build a 200-MW unit at the Maximo Gomez thermal plant in the city of Mariel and three 200-MW units at the East Havana thermal plant in the city of Santa Cruz del Norte.
In July 2014, Inter RAO Export and Union Electrica signed a memorandum of understanding to build the four 200-MW power units, including three units at the East Havana plant and one unit at the Maximo Gomez plant. Investments in the project were estimated at 1.2 billion euros. The launch of the units is scheduled for 2022–2024.
Russia will provide a 1.2 billion euro loan to Cuba to finance construction of the power units.
